Thanksgiving

In my life, I place a high value on family.  I believe that it is very important to spend time with those related to you and build up your relationship that way.  I am very lucky to be especially close to my two brothers.  Despite the difference in age, I still enjoy getting to be friends with them.  When we were younger, it seemed like I couldn’t wait for them to grow-up and head off to college.  We would have little unimportant fights like every sibling relationship, but I cant imagine how much worse my life could be without them.  This is why I think that family is so important and wouldn’t want to have to grow up without them being a part of my life.

I am very thankful that I have been blessed with a good house and can grow up in a nice place.  I realize that many people are not as lucky and do not have stable housing.  The security of knowing I am in a safe area is very reassuring.  I am also surrounded with many good friends and lots of family in the area.  This is something that cannot be measured, but is one of the most important things to me.  Overall, these are things I am very thankful for and should remember to appreciate more often.

In my family, we have several Thanksgiving Day traditions.  There is no better way to begin the day than with the Thanksgiving Day parade.  While we are still in our pajamas, my brothers and I go downstairs to the family room and wake up to the floats and smell of pumpkin pie in the oven.  Although as we have gotten older, the enthusiasm of waking up early has waned, it is still a tradition we hold to every year.  Another thing I love about Thanksgiving is the time in the evening.  Once everybody is finished eating and have dispersed throughout the house, you can just relax and enjoy each other’s company.  Even though it may not sound like much, it is my favorite part of the day.  All of the cleaning and preparation is done and there is no need to worry about getting anything ready anymore.  The craziness of the day is fun, But I love most of all being able to enjoy the holiday with my family and friends.
